Gilded Wooden Mirror, Louis XV Period, Provence, 18th Century

- Gilded wood mirror, Louis XV period, 18th century work, Provence.

Rectangular in shape, this mirror is enriched with a richly ornamented gilded wood pediment frame. The motifs that compose it use an ornamental vocabulary dedicated to vegetation; the scrolls are accompanied by acanthus leaf scrolls, delicately sculpted vine branches with leaves, bunches of grapes and tendrils. The elegance of the combination of gilded carved wood and the mirror is ensured by the openwork edges in several places. The delicacy of the sculpture is perceptible in the treatment of the ornaments; the bunches of grapes are detailed grain by grain, the flowers of the bouquet adorning the pediment and in particular their flower heads are described with meticulousness.
