Henri Emmanuel Peinte (1845-1912)
Henri Emmanuel Peinte born July 24 , 1845 in Cambrai , is a French sculptor , famous for his mythological subjects in the 19th century .
Son of François Emmanuel Joseph Peinte , architect in Cambrai , Henri Peinte turned towards artistic studies , he first studied at the Cambrai School of Drawing , then , having obtained a scholarship from the department , entered the School of Fine Arts in Paris where he was a student of Francisque Duret , Eugene Guillaume and Jules Cavelier .
He exhibited for the first time at the Salon in 1877 and won a third class medal with his statue of "Sarpedon" , which is his best-known work .
He won an award for a bronze reduction of his "Sarpedon" and the group of "Orpheus and Cerberus" at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 in Paris , the year in which he was decorated with the Legion of Honor .
The original plaster model of "Sarpedon" is currently kept at the Museum of Fine Arts of Coulommiers .
Henri Emmanuel Peinte died on December 26 , 1912 in Paris .
