"Buddha Vajrasattva Tibetan Bronze Late 19th Century"
Vajrasattva: supreme Buddha perceived as the personification of the fundamental purity of the mind. He is represented here in Yab-Yum or in close union with his Shakti (or consort) Vajragharvi thus symbolizing the activity of the complete Divinity (passive male energy and active female energy) and holds in his hands the vajra symbol of the indestructible nature of awakening and the Gantha symbol of wisdom. Tibetan BRONZE late 19th century. Height 47.5 cm, Width 35 cm. The Sanskrit term bodhisattva designates human or divine beings, who have reached the state of awakening and bear the name of buddha. Tantric Buddhism endows these characters with a shakti, power personified in the form of a woman with whom the bodhisattva unites. Shakti is the energy that animates the universe and by connecting to this energy, one can reach a state of enlightenment.
