In 1959 he moved to Rome, where he frequented art historians Dario Micacchi, Enrico Crispolti and Giorgio Di Genova. The latter in 1970 writes the monograph “Vacchi informale” (Fratelli Pozzo, Turin). He lives for a short time in Via De Carolis, then rents an apartment-studio in Piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina where he stays until 1997.
Between 1962 and 1968 he painted three pictorial cycles, moving beyond the Informal and updating his personal discourse on the social: The Council, The Death of Frederick II of Hohenstaufen and Galileo Galilei semper, the latter on the theme of power.
In 1963 one of his works was exhibited at the Contemporary Italian Paintings exhibition, held in a number of Australian cities[4].
In 1964 the Venice Biennale dedicated a solo room to Vacchi.[source-less] In 1965 he married Letizia Balboni, who had recently separated from Michelangelo Antonioni.
