Object description :

"Guy Marandet (1917-2011) - Mirmande 1950 - "
Oil painting under glass signed lower left Guy Marandet.
The technique of painting under glass consists of colors applied to the back of the glass without undergoing any firing unlike the art of stained glass. At the end of his work, the artist turns the glass plate over: we thus perceive in reverse the image represented through the glass. The paint is applied in the reverse order of easel painting, or mixed according to the so-called fresh method. While stained glass reveals its splendor thanks to a passing light, painting under glass requires incident lighting, like any framed work placed on the wall.

It measures 26cm x 15.5cm without frame, 31cm x 20.5cm in total.
Representing a Composition of Figures painted around 1950.

Guy Marandet, 1917- 2011. Born in Paris, his father, Maurice Marandet, was a designer in goldsmithing. He was a student and friend of André Lhote in Mirmande from 1935 to 1944. He was a licensed professor of Art Drawing and Director of the Paris School of Art (80, bd du Montparnasse). After several regular stays in Mirmande in André Lhote's house, he acquired in 1953 “La Grande Maison”, a ruined building that he tirelessly restored for thirty years. Upon his retirement, he settled permanently in Mirmande, carrying out research and work on the work of André Lhote and on Mirmande and bringing several of his students, painters, engravers or sculptors, who settled in the region. Guy Marandet leaves a rich body of work of drawings, engravings, watercolors, pastels and oils on canvas, mainly representing landscapes of France and abroad. Works acquired by the State, the City of Paris and many private collections. Listed Artist and Quoted by Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc...
