RAPIN DE THOYRAS (Paul) - History of England containing what happened since the invasion of Julius Caesar, until the conquest of the Normans and continued until the accession of George II to the crown. The Hague, Chez Alexandre de Rogissart, 1724-1738; in-4, LX-527 + 538 + 506 + 557 + 471 + 496 + 632 + 724 + 584 + 511 + 232 + XVI-579 + 628 + 606 pp., full blond calf bindings of the time, spine decorated with 5 ribs, marbled edges. The 13 volumes. Original edition complete with maps, engravings and folding tables, the 13th volume does indeed contain the splendors of England at the end of the 13th volume. An allegorical title page in frontispiece engraved by FM de la Cave, 8 folding maps, 14 folding genealogical tables and 7 portraits of kings and magnificent title bands. Very good condition. Paul Rapin de Thoyras is a French historian. His Protestant religion forced him to leave France the day after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. He left for England and Holland where he fought for the Prince of Orange. He was the first French historian of English institutions before Montesquieu.
