Object description :

"2nd Empire Dignitary Sword"
Sword of a dignitary of the 2nd Empire, probably of a Senator.
Gilded bronze guard. Faceted fuse covered with mother-of-pearl. Body knot representing a snake coiling around a mirror. Openwork plate finely chiseled with an eagle with outstretched wings surrounded by the oak and laurel branch, symbols of glory and strength. Guard branch carved with floral decorations. Ball-shaped pommel topped with an urn-shaped button.
Triangular blade acid-etched with draperies and volutes. The inner face bears the name of the swordsmith in a cartouche: "Dupetitbosq Frères Palais-Royal Paris".
Green leather scabbard with two chiseled fittings.
This sword has retained all of its gilding. The casting and chiseling work are quite exceptional.
