Still life with a checked tablecloth
Oil on cardboard
35x42.5 cm (visible) - signed and dated 1922
Pierre Faget was born in Bordeaux in 1890 and it was in his hometown that he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts et des Arts Décoratifs. Like many painters of his generation, he moved to Algeria in 1928. The following year, he married Yvonne Germain.
It was in Algiers that he met and worked alongside Léon Carré and Albert Marquet. A classical painter, he painted North Africa, the coasts of Corsica or Provence, the southwest, but it is for his seascapes that his painting attracts the most attention from amateurs.
The oil on cardboard that we are offering you still dates from his Bordeaux period, a classic still life, well-raised and enhanced by the presence of this checkered tablecloth, so evocative... Some missing parts and slight deformation of the support.
