Object description :

"Drouot Edouard (1859 – 1945) – Pax Labor – Bronze – Signed "
Large bronze with brown patina representing a young man standing. His right arm is raised. He should be holding an olive branch in his hand, but the branch is missing. In his left hand, he holds a plow. The man is naked, except for a loincloth. His face is finely drawn, his abundant hair floats in the wind. At his feet, we note a sword.
The title of the work is noted on a plaque fixed to the terrace. A second plaque specifies that this work was offered to a member of staff of the Laon district in 1903.
The work is in very good condition. We can see the usual few oxidations for a sculpture of this age (see photos). The terrace is also in very good condition, without dents.
Weight: 6.750 kgs

The artist
Edouard Drouot was born in Sommevoire (Haute-Marne) in 1859 and died in Paris in 1945. He was a student of Emile Thomas and Mathurin Moreau at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. From 1889, he regularly participated in the Salon des artistes français.
He is known for his bronze and marble sculptures of allegorical and mythological scenes. Sometimes creating animal and orientalist works, Drouot's sculptures, whether of animals or people, are characterized by a sense of movement and an expressive touch.
Today, Drouot's work can be found, among others, in the collections of the Fine Arts museums of Clermont-Ferrand and Reims. Abroad, his works can be seen at the Courtauld Institute in London and at the Indiana University Art Museum in Bloomington. His works have been the subject of public sales on numerous occasions.
