Object description :

"Antonio Amorosi - A Child With A Deck Of Cards Drops The Ace. End Of The 17th-begin Of The 18th"
Oil painting on canvas, depicting a child who plays the ace of clubs. The Fact, wants to be a reason for good luck, in fact, it is a very positive card that hopes for self-control, action and the achievement of new professional and life goals. The canvas, in good condition and already restored, is to be attributed, certainly to the painter from the Marche Antonio Mercurio Amorosi di Comunanza (1660-1738), not only for a thematic and figurative question, but for technical stylistic coincidences, leading us to consider it a valid attribution.
For a long time Amorosi dedicated himself to depicting young offspring intent on playful actions, in fact, one of his first known works, because signed and dated, is from 1690 and depicted the portrait of a child, that of Filippi Ricci. He develops, by trying his hand at such portraits, a real, realistic poetics, between portrait and genre scene, starting from the taste of the works of the "Bamboccianti", active in Rome in the second half of the seventeenth century. This motif, of considerable success for him, will be carried forward practically throughout his life, in conjunction with his happy devotional production, which he executed on commission for various dioceses of central Italy.

Fortunately, we know the name of the young man in this portrait, which was transferred during the relining of the canvas, it is Onofrio Epifani, coming from a family of the minor aristocracy of Narni, in Umbria.

The painting is unpublished, as it does not appear in the catalogue of works reconstructed in the monograph by the author Claudio Raggini.

The painting measures 34cm x 44cm, the measurements with the contemporary frame from the early eighteenth century are 48cm x 59cm.

The work is in excellent condition. We enclose a historical certificate of authenticity with the sale.
