Object description :

"Indus Valley Terracotta Vase. 2600-1900 Bc."
Terracotta vase from the Indus Valley. Resting on a flat disk, this vase unfolds in elegant curves that emphasize the harmony of its proportions. The two linear and concentric outgrowths that adorn its surface seem to trace infinite circles, evoking the cycle of time. Two magnificently stylized friezes surround the body of the vase, representing a round of deer with long, finely refined horns. The graphics of the animals, reduced to the essentials, capture the elegance of their movement and seem to vibrate with a timeless life. The black lines that frame these scenes add a striking contrast, reinforcing the depth and rhythm of the composition. Orange terracotta with brown decoration. Light surface scratches and wear of time. Small restoration on the neck of approximately 7 x 1 cm. The whole in good general condition of conservation. Indus Valley Civilization, 2600-1900 BC Dimensions: Height: 14.3 cm, diameter: 16.5 cm. Provenance: Origine auction sale, Paris, December 2 and 3, 2017. Number 3 in the catalog. Former Gies Pluim collection, Amsterdam, (1928-2016), after succession. Sold with certificate of authenticity from the expert Serge Reynes. This piece, a reflection of the ingenuity and artistic sensitivity of the Indus civilization, invites us to contemplate an ancient world where art and nature intertwine in a sublime expression. More than a simple vase, it bears witness to a vision, that of a society that found beauty in the simplicity of forms and the depth of symbols.
