Old reuse of a sabre blade of an Infantry Grenadier, model 1765/67, bearing, engraved, on one side the word "Grenadier" partly erased, the symbol of the grenade, and on the other, two intertwined royal "L"s (Louis XV), surmounted by a crowned "R" = period in Klingenthal of the Entrepreneur Louis-Antoine GAU de Vaumarin, from 1765 to 1784.
This blade was originally 59.6 cm long, and has apparently been slightly adapted to its new use...
Edge of the blade engraved: "Manufacture Royale d'Alsace", first designation of the name of the Klingenthal manufacture.
Handle in solid molded ebony.
Solid silver guard stamped, representing on one side a deer's head, and on the other a wolf's head; quillons in the shape of hunting dog heads. Hallmarks on the guard with the tax collectors general, menus, Paris(?), eagle's or griffin's head; master goldsmith: "BA", (unidentified).
Beautiful condition, logical oxidation on the blade without gravity; sold without scabbard.
This object has been generously authenticated and appraised by Mr Marc Adolf, expert and president of the association for the preservation of Klingenthal.
