The bronze is signed E Marioton and bears the words "hors concours" and "Copyright by Lapointe" and the "N°3570"
Eugène Marioton is a French medallist and sculptor (1857-1933): a student at the École des Beaux-Arts, he won several awards as well as a travel grant from 1883.
He regularly participated in the Salon de la Société des Artistes français and became a member of the jury in 1905 in the sculpture section.
For the Universal Exhibition of 1900, he was one of the artists representing the 36 participating nations in the form of 2.5 m high characters with his Belgian Miner.
His work is as varied as it is prolific, and some of his creations can be found in museums. Good general condition, wear to the patina and a chip on the marble.
