Follower of Jean Jacques Bachelier (1724-1806) Owl holding its prey on an oak tree Oil on oval canvas Size: 64.5 x 54 cm Size with frame: 78 x 68 cm Very beautiful painting of great finesse of execution, the owl is rarely represented in painting at rest with its prey between its claws. It would seem that the bird has just landed on an oak tree. Its prey, trapped in its sharp claws, loses its plumage which falls delicately on the tree towards a snail which is wandering. The bird, its gaze fixed on the spectator, spreads its wings on a very bright blue background which magnifies it.
