Our painting, by the quality of the drawing as well as the accuracy of the colors applied is a perfect example of the skillful work of Paul Denarié. The teaching provided by Master Bouguereau made Denarié an expert artist in the art of composition. The handful of latecomers who rush into the Basilica as well as the few seated peasant women presenting ex-votos have been cleverly grouped in the narthex. Only a couple and their child hesitate to enter in order to atone for their sins, thus leaving the forecourt almost deserted. In fact, through the finesse of this composition, the artist brings out all the sacredness of the religious building, giving even the most profane of art lovers a touristic urge.
Unframed.
A small touch-up at the bottom left.
Good general condition.
