"18th Century Italian Carved Walnut Two Door Gate"
Antique Italian carved walnut two door gate of the 18th century from a church altar chapel carved and pierced with floral motifs, pomegranates and sunflowers. In the lower part two birds holding a crown, which has been integrated into the right-hand leaf; in the upper part above a frame there is a floral cymatium. The interrupted frames, the one on the right wing has been replaced, show that the gate originally went against a balustrade or similar structure. The symbolic significance of the crown, pomegranate and sunflower is interesting. On the back side, the moulded wooden cimasa supports are delightful. The dovetailed kneeling hinges are also original.
In good age related condition, with repairs and replacements consistent with age and use.
