Object description :

"Pair Of Jacob Petit Rihouet 5-light Candelabra With Caryatid Decor"
Here is a pair of exceptional candlesticks, they are made of porcelain and bear a monogram. They are of Restoration inspiration, decorated with caryatids, columns, Corinthian capitals. They bear the signature Rihouet rue de la Paix and JP inside the base. These are exceptional pieces, large, spectacular. Jacob Mardochée (1797-1868), better known by his pseudonym Jacob Petit which he took in 1816, is a prominent figure on the French artistic scene in the field of ornamental porcelain. He was trained in the workshop of the painter Antoine Gros, a student of David, then took over the management of the Fontainebleau Porcelain Factory before devoting himself entirely to ornamental porcelain. He is to this day highly prized by collectors due to the quality of his creations and the originality of his forms. Louis Marie François Rihouët began his activity in 1818 and obtained the title of faience maker to the King in 1824. It was at this date that he transferred his establishment to 7, rue de la Paix. The porcelains bearing the name Rihouët in full, with or without an address, are very carefully made. They are mostly tableware, with a number or coat of arms, because Rihouët had a select and wealthy clientele including the King of Portugal. Unfortunately, these candelabras have many accidents (visible in the photos), a missing part on a foot, on a character, on the shafts at the top and bottom, a crack across the cup for one, for the other stains on the underside of the cup, grain and wear on the crowns of the characters, small missing parts on the central light, rubbing and traces of use on the whole. Note that the threaded rods need to be tightened or changed, there is play on both candelabras. We will not deliver by post for this type of item that is too fragile, but we work with carriers, please contact us for a quote. Our many photos allow you to appreciate the quality of the objects.
