"Large Africanist In Sandstone Unique Piece Signed Biron "
Superb salted stoneware vase. The Châtelet and Bouffioulx factories have been renowned for their stoneware pottery for almost two thousand years. Their existence can also be attested to in Roman times. In the Middle Ages, local potters used the earth from the Bois de la Seigneurie in exchange for a fee payable to the Prince-Bishop of Liège on which the city depended. Over the centuries and with the emerging industrialization, artistic pottery gradually disappeared to make way for earthenware. In 1935, Joseph Biron built his pottery after learning how to use the wheel. His goal was to bring his passion for decorated stoneware back to the forefront. Today, his great-grandson is the fourth generation of potters in the family business! The Biron pottery offers a wide variety of customizable stoneware pieces.
