"Arras 1732, Pair Of Candlesticks, Solid Silver, Pierre-francois Joncqué "
Very rare pair of candlesticks from the Louis XV period with the hallmarks of the Arras guild for the year 1732-33 and the hallmark of the master goldsmith Pierre-François Joncqué (1690-1763). Pierre-François was the son, godson, brother, nephew, uncle and father of a goldsmith and even his wife was allowed to continue her workshop after his death until 1775. As a widowed goldsmith she even had her own hallmark. Their shop was located on the corner of the current Place du Théâtre and the rue de la Caisse d'Épargne. Despite a long career, few works by his hand are known on the art market. The candlesticks in question are fairly typical for the period but are a little smaller (19.5 cm) than average, which could indicate that they were intended to light a secretary, a desk or a dressing table rather than a large dining table. The pair weighs 765 grams. The navel of the foot is engraved with a diamond-shaped coat of arms (single lady) topped with a marquis' crown.
