Lacquered Wood Coffee Table, China – 1950

Beautiful coffee table entirely decorated, painted and lacquered by hand by Chinese craftsmen from the mid-20th century. This living room table represents a traditional life scene from ancestral China. Six characters representing the emperor and empress, accompanied by servants meet a fisherman, are made of hard stones, cut and sculpted in different colors, bringing an incomparable relief to this creation. This work is protected by glass placed on the top painted with golden patterns. We find sculpted ornaments on the belt of this table which rests on curved legs ending in claws.
