"Alexandre René Véron. Oil On Canvas "fishermen At The Water's Edge" 46.3 X 27.2 Cm"
Alexandre René Véron. Oil on canvas "fishermen at the water's edge" signed and dated lower left AR Veron. 1885. French school. 46.3 X 27.2 cm. Alexandre René Véron (1826-1897) made his debut at the Salon of 1848, where he participated for about thirty years. The painter is an esteemed representative of the Barbizon School through the accuracy of his compositions and the mastery of his palette. In 1885 at the Salon, the artist exhibited "Soleil couchant, à Argenteuil". We believe that our painting belongs to a series of works produced in Argenteuil and its surroundings this year 1885. Formerly, the Bénézit, dictionary of painters and sculptors, mentioned "the honorable place he holds among the minor artists of the Barbizon School". This undeserved remark reduced the career of the faithful Barbizon painter to a subordinate role within this School. On the contrary, it seems to us that the vigor of his line and the accuracy of his colors make him one of its best representatives. The Museums of Dijon, Le Mans, Nantes, Périgueux, Parthenay and Saint-Lô preserve some of his works. Unframed. Good condition.
