"Louis XVI Bureau Plat Stamped Jacob Frères, 18th - Early 19th Century"
Made of solid mahogany and mahogany veneer, it has an original leather top with a beautiful patina. The desk opens with two drawers and two side pulls, providing a practical work surface. It rests on tapered cylindrical sheathed legs, decorated with grooves and gilded bronze rings. Stamped on the crosspieces see photos. Dimensions of the pulls 30 cm longer in addition. An authentic and sober desk, ideal for lovers of period furniture. Note: The Jacob Frères stamp corresponds to the association in 1796 of the two brothers Georges II (1768-1803) and François-Honoré-Georges Jacob (1770-1841), taking over the workshop of their father Georges Jacob. This collaboration gave rise to works of high quality, characterized by the elegance of the lines and the use of mahogany as well as various precious woods. The production of the Jacob Frères marked the transition between the Louis XVI style and that of the Consulate, notably through prestigious orders for Joséphine Bonaparte, including the furniture of Malmaison and that of the Tuileries. The Jacob Frères association was however short-lived, until 1803, when George II died, leading to an evolution of the stamp towards “Jacob D. Rue Meslée”.
