Biography of Klara Reynders
Klara Reynders (December 8, 1936 – December 4, 2021) was a visionary Belgian artist who turned her creative passions into a remarkable career. Initially adhering to her parents' wishes by teaching gymnastics, she later pursued her artistic calling.
She studied General Design, Modeling, and Sculpture at the Academy of Heusden-Zolder, graduating in 1989 with a gold medal. Reynders began her artistic journey working with clay and spent four years developing a secret technique that gave her ceramics their distinct and unparalleled style. Her philosophy viewed traditional crafts like ceramic baking and papermaking as art forms.
Reynders' creativity extended beyond ceramics to include sewing, drawing, painting, and recycling, which she explored until her final days. She famously declared: “I don’t like straight lines. In nature, everything is curved and round.”
