Object description :

"Antwerp 1757, Holy Water Vessel Stoup, Joseph Van Der Borcht, Sterling Silver, Antwerpen Zilver"
Sumptuous Louis XV period apartment holy water stoup in solid silver with the hallmark of the city of Antwerp (one hand), the hallmark of master goldsmith Joseph van der Borcht (one tower of a castle) and the vintage hallmark of the year 1757. For practical reasons, eighteenth century holy water stoups often have a small pewter container. This one still has its original container to protect the silver from the holy water to which a good dose of salt is traditionally added. This model is particularly rich in decoration and rather large and heavy for a holy water stoup. Weight 410 grams.
