"Arte Povera: Powder Box"
Pretty circular box with Arte Povera decoration, late 18th century, France or Italy. An essential element of the toilet at the time for powdering wigs... Slightly domed lid decorated with four characters playing music in a garden, frieze around the perimeter of intertwined flowers, application of engravings enhanced with gouache and greenery treated with green pigments on a cream-colored background. Closure by slip-fitting. A few small pigment jumps, a small chip in the varnish and a fine scratch from very acceptable use, I consider this box to be in good general condition given its age and use. Friezes around the perimeter, geometric on the lid. for the body of the box: four charming cartouches enclosing four different landscapes and/or constructions alternating with bouquets of flowers in baskets. Interior paper glued with Meudon white and pink tissue paper. original varnish. Note: beautiful authenticity for this box which has not been retouched. Delivery: €10 for mainland France.
