He received the third Belgian Rome Prize in painting in 18894 Study at the Academy of Malines -
After training at the academies of Brussels (1877-1884) and Antwerp, he worked in Brussels before becoming a teacher at the Academy of his hometown in 1913.
Painter of historical and religious subjects and portraits, Victor Van Dyck began working as a decorative painter in the 1880s. He was responsible for the interior decoration of commercial establishments and private homes in Brussels1. Among other things, in 1902 he created, with Adolphe Crespin, the decor of the Bibliothèque Solvay, wall decorations in the Max Hallet hotel built by Victor Horta and two painted canvases dated 1907, in a house at 256 Chaussée d'Haecht2,3.
As he acquired expertise in ceiling decoration, he was invited to work in London and Blackpool to create ceiling decorations for theatres1.
