Condition: Sold in the state of discovery, good condition, to be cleaned (see photos)

History: Son of Claude Louis Joseph Marie Chambard, merchant, Louis Léopold Chambard was born in Saint-Amour in the Jura on August 25, 1811. After classes at the municipal drawing school of Lyon, he entered the École des beaux-arts in Paris on March 31, 1836 in the studios of Pierre-Jean David d'Angers and Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. He won the first prize of Rome for sculpture with Marius on the ruins of Carthage in 1837 and became a resident of the Villa Medici in Rome from 1838 to 1842. Chambard exhibited his first sculptures at the Salon of 1841. Back from Italy, he received several official commissions, notably for the Louvre Palace.
