"Summer Awakening - Bronze Sculpture By Charles Raphaël Peyre - Circa 1900"
This superb gilded bronze sculpture represents the awakening of the morning, embodied by a group of three putti. They are represented in a scene full of movement and softness, lying on a bed of wheat sheaves, a motif traditionally associated with harvests and the summer season. One of the putti, in the center, holds a bouquet of ears of wheat in his arms, illustrating abundance and prosperity. His companions, one seated and the other just awakened, lying in a relaxed pose, reinforce the carefree and joyful character of the composition. The delicate facial expressions and the careful details of the curly hair testify to the talent of our sculptor Charles, known for the finesse of his bronze work. The group rests on an elegant base in breccia violet marble, adding a touch of refinement to the whole. The golden patina highlights the reliefs and gives a luminous warmth to the sculpture. Very good condition, with a beautiful original patina. Some traces of use normal for its age. Signed on the base “R. Ch. Peyre” French work Circa 1900
