Very fashionable from the beginning of the 19th century, opalines elegantly and fancifully embellished the interiors of the French aristocracy and bourgeoisie. An opaline is a glass or crystal "made either opaque by the addition of tin oxide, or slightly opalescent by the presence of bone or horn ash". In the first third of the 19th century, the ambient neoclassicism (artistic movement initiated in the 18th century and based on the renewed interest in Antiquity) led to the adoption of simple and balanced forms, inspired by Greek, Roman, Etruscan and Egyptian art.
Perfect state of conservation.
