In 1832, Frédéric Sauvage (1786-1857) received a patent for a device for reducing statues, to make bronze reductions, which was widely used by the Susse foundry.
Statues bearing the Sauvage mark are of the highest quality and were made in the first half of the 19th century. Most of these statues have a medal patina; gilded subjects are rare. Our sculpture is masterfully chased, as befits bronzes of the early 19th century, and its original mercury gilding is well preserved. Small signs of aging.
