Eduard von Gebhardt, (born June 13, 1838 in Sankt Johannis (today Järva-Jaani), died February 3, 1925 in Düsseldorf) was a painter and professor at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts. From the age of 16 to 19, he attended the Russian Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg and then made a two-year trip, part of which was to Karlsruhe, where he went to the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1860, he came to Düsseldorf where he was a student of Wilhelm Sohn and, after receiving much support, decided to stay in this city. In 1873 Gebhardt became a professor at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts and trained many students, including Paula Monjé and Wilhelm Techmeier. He is buried in the North Cemetery in Düsseldorf.
