Presented in a modern gilded wooden frame, H 75 cm x 64 cm. France. First Empire. Very good condition, the painting has been restored and relined. BIOGRAPHY: Denis DECRÈS, born June 18, 1761 in Chaumont (Haute-Marne) and died December 7, 1820 in Paris, is a naval officer and politician of the Consulate and the First Empire. Maritime prefect in Lorient, he became Minister of the Navy from 1801 to 1814, vice-admiral, senator, grand officer and head of the 10th cohort of the Legion of Honor in 1804, inspector general of the Mediterranean coasts, grand cordon of the Legion of Honor in 1805, grand officer of the Empire in 1806, count then duke in 1813. He died in Paris on December 7, 1820, from injuries received during the arson attack on his home.
