"Pewter Wine Pitcher - Port, 18th Century"
MY PRICES INCLUDE SHIPPING FOR METROPOLITAN FRANCE

**********************************

Very rare Pewter baluster pitcher with cylindrical base and ogee foot, quarter-round goblet, domed lid with curved plain thumb.
Barely legible property mark (?) affixed to the lid.
Bruised mark very incompletely legible on the exterior bottom of Joze Antonio FRIAS active from 1701.
Height: 24.7 cm.
PORTUGAL (Porto), First half of the 18th century

Medieval type piece in good condition, with a marbled patina. This pitcher has not been scrubbed for many decades... It can be cleaned by me if the purchaser wishes, at no extra cost, to restore its original shiny appearance. The deliberately bruised marks were so at certain times in History when it could prove very dangerous to have objects bearing royal symbols at home, here a crown... The same observation was made in France many times at the end of the 18th century.
Productions from this provenance are extremely rare (even there...!) and most often not marked.
Identical piece and mark reproduced in "Estanhos portugueses" by Rolando van Zeller (See the last three photographs)
