"Miniature Money Changer Scale Box"
Miniature money changer scale box. Period second half of the 18th century. Probably from eastern France or Germany. The box is made of sycamore maple mounted with dovetails. It is very finely painted in ink on the four sides and on the lid with various landscape scenes and characters. The tilting underside forms a tray on the front of the box. The lid has an openwork ivory circle in its center to accommodate the column of the scale in turned ivory and ebony. Scale with arms and trays in bronze. Button, hinges and hook in bronze. The interior is decorated with a later silk fabric. A small old graft at a corner of the tray. Dimensions: L 13 x D 6 x H 4.5 (total height with scale 13)
