- High relief sculpture in carved wood with traces of polychromy representing a skull in profile with bones like a memento mori, 17th century work. The work presented here is a vanitas expressed in a very sober manner. Its reverse tells us about its context of creation; this carved element was the base of a crucifix. Also, the presence of this skull, with this religious prism, can be perceived both as a symbol of death but also of eternal life, of resurrection since the place of the crucifixion, Golgotha, is called the "place of the skull". In the Christian iconographic tradition, the skull at the foot of Jesus' cross is reputed to be that of Adam, symbol of all the men that Jesus came to save.
