"Bronze Torch Holder, Flying Mercury, Grand Tour, 19th Century"

Large bronze torch holder with double patina, in the style of excavation objects or objects from the Grand Tour: the base rests on three feet in the shape of animal paws and a wooden base, and is decorated with wolf or tiger heads and a quiver in the center.

It is topped with a sculpture called "Flying Mercury", after Jean de Bologne. Depicted as a naked young man, flying through the air, pushed underfoot by the breath of Zephir's head, Mercury holds a caduceus in his left hand and in his right hand what must have been an oil lamp (missing).
