"Very Fine Carpet From The Beauvais Factory, Early 19th Century"
Magnificent carpet from the Beauvais factory, dating from the early 19th century, measuring 321 x 169 cm. This masterpiece is needle-knotted, with wool and silk threads on cotton foundations, a traditional tapestry technique. Its general condition is excellent, with remarkable finesse of execution. The sky blue field, a rare color, is decorated with volutes of branches and crenellated foliage in symmetrical twists, framing a central medallion. The latter, of an original geometric shape, is bordered by a crown of finely drawn polychrome flowers, in inlaid ivory. The frame of the carpet has magnificent reserves of garland cords, decorated with bouquets of multi-colored flowers, while the four spandrels are decorated with stylized towers and fortifications, surrounded by trees and plants. The terminal border, decorated with stylized clouds, and the pastel color palette add a unique and harmonious touch to this work.
