Oil on canvas 19th century Dim without frame 61/48 Dim with frame 75/61 French school Signed Theodore Levigne lower right. Théodore Levigne is a French painter, born on November 17, 1848 in Noirétable and died on November 11, 1912. His family moved to Lyon in 1856 in the Saint-Jean district. He joined the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon from 1860 to 1862. Our painting is a classic of Levigne, a snow landscape, but his production is sometimes uneven in terms of quality. This painting, on the other hand, is very interesting in its composition, there is a beautiful depth, the eye wanders through the painting, then there is a very beautiful contrast, the white of the snow which stands out against a dark background, a leaden sky, then the quality of the drawing which sometimes leaves something to be desired on certain paintings, here on the contrary, the ducks are well represented, the touch is sure, we can see a real skill of the painter.
