Antique Madonna and Child from the mid-17th century. Oil painting on canvas of remarkable pictorial quality attributable to the Italian painter Giovanni Andrea Sirani (1610-1670). A Bolognese artist of the Baroque era, he was a favourite pupil of Guido Reni and is best known for being the father of the great painter Elisabetta Sirani. (The painting is currently not accompanied by an expertise but it can be requested upon payment of the relevant additional costs). 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, with some signs of aging and loss of gilding (see photo). Painting already restored with re-lining, replacement of the frame and re-colouring in small spots, overall in good condition. Internal size H 57 x W 43 cm.
