"Box Cover Geneva Workshop Around 1800 Enamel "
Formerly transformed into a brooch, polychrome enamel in a gilded metal frame and translucent blue enamel and a border set with half pearls. The scene presents the farewells of Herctor and Andromache, this enamel was made from the engraving of the painting by Antoine COYPEL (1661-1722) and engraved by Nicola TARDIEU (1674-1745). This engraving is kept at the Museum of Art and History of the city of Geneva. The painting is at the Museum of Tours and a replica is at the Louvre. Before leaving to face the Greeks, Hector says goodbye to Andromache his wife and their son, on the ramparts of Troy... (book VI of Lilliade, lines 469 to 485). This subject was recently found (October 18, 2024) on the cover of a singing bird watch box sold by Maison Aguttes (no. 60) entitled "the return of the warrior". The framing of the scene being different, we were able to easily recognize this representation. Free shipping for Metropolitan France.
