Weerts made numerous paintings representing women dreaming. Our painting is one of the latter presenting a beautiful young woman holding a Chinese vase containing a bouquet of flowers (nasturtiums, sunflowers, poppies...). This is an allegory of ephemeral beauty: flowers, beautiful in one moment, fade quickly. An allegory in the image of the human being?
