Crucifixion Of Christ - Spain - Circa 1640

Framed by the Virgin Mary on the left and Saint John the Evangelist on the right, Christ on the cross is depicted with great sobriety, his face inclined, symbolizing suffering and abandonment. Our oil on copper highlights a strong spiritual and emotional expression in the treatment of figures and postures. The faces of the Virgin and Saint John translate deep pain.
The polychromy is rich in tones. The painting is surrounded by an elegant, finely worked gilded frame. They have some losses. Used condition - occasional losses and some repainting.
