"The Priestess - François Vanczak "
François Vanczak studied sculpture in Budapest, in his native country. After perfecting his art in Germany and Austria, he moved to Paris in 1937 where he created his studio. His reputation continued to grow. In 1939, he volunteered for the 21st Marching Regiment of Foreign Volunteers, which was dissolved a year later in Perpignan. His Parisian studio was destroyed and looted by the occupier, and he then came to settle in Cabestany after the war, seduced by the landscapes and light of Roussillon. François Vanczak was convinced that art reflects the soul of the individual living in his century. He favored sculpture accessible to all with clean, modern lines. Beyond his work, contemporaries who met him unanimously recognized a great, sensitive and cultured man, passionate about art in general.
