"Bronze Sculpture Mathurin Moreau - The Reaper "
Bronze sculpture with brown patina on rotating marble base, “the reaper”, signed on the side *Math. Moreau "as well as the inscription "hors concours" and "Médaille d'honneur". Mathurin Moreau is a 19th century French artist, born in 1822, died in 1913. He was admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1841, and won several prizes during exhibitions. He also participated in the Universal Exhibition of 1855 and became a jury member in 1900 for the Universal Exhibition in Paris. In 1879, Mathurin Moreau was elected mayor of the 19th arrondissement of Paris. Sculpture in perfect condition for its magnificent patina as well as for the precision of the chiseling. Very realistic subject. Very good condition. Note a small lack on the marble base, however invisible when the bronze is on its base.
