Albert SÉBILLE (1874-1953) Destroyer Watercolor signed lower right with navy anchor. Some stains. Dimensions: 64 X 42 cm without frame / 80 X 59 cm with frame. New frame, with museum quality glass. After research, it must be the destroyer Le Triomphant. Le Triomphant is a destroyer of the Le Fantasque class that served in the French Navy. It was built in the Ateliers et chantiers de France in Dunkirk and commissioned in 1934, three years after its laying down. At the outbreak of the Second World War, it belonged to the Force de Raid. In June 1940, the ship joined the Free French Naval Forces (FNFL). It was commanded by frigate captain Philippe Auboyneau, who rearmed it and took it to the Pacific Ocean. Promoted to captain, he took command of the FNFL in the Pacific aboard the Triomphant. Ensign Robert Girardon, future vice-admiral, was on board Le Triomphant until 1942, before joining General de Gaulle's staff in Algiers. The ship was disarmed on December 19, 1954 and scrapped in Bizerte in 1960.
