"Juan Manuel De Rosas Engraved Libertad Gaucho Facon Bowie Silver"
This knife can be attributed to Juan Manuel de Rosas given the style and inscription, but I cannot confirm it, as I am not an expert. We believe it is silver but no hallmark has been found to confirm this. The scabbard is made of silver and leather, given the quality, as well as a hook to wear it on the belt. The blade is engraved with a hunting scene decoration and arabesques. Inscription: "Libertad" the rest of the inscription is difficult to identify. Juan Manuel de Rosas was an Argentine politician and military man who governed the Argentine Confederation from 1835 to 1852. Rosas was a great unifier of his country but, many historians consider his regime to be violent and brutal. Like any rustic man of his time, Rosas was a lover of sabers and knives. Note some non-corrosive rust spots, the tip of the knife is broken. The scabbard has stains but is complete. The hoop has come loose on one end, to be restored. We are selling it as is, uncleaned, in its original condition. For the condition, please provide detailed photos. The photos are an integral part of the description.
