"Printed Scarf With Picoted Palmettes - Provence Circa 1860"
Circa 1860 Alsace for Provence Fichu printed with a copper plate or roller on very fine cotton from an Alsatian manufacturer for the Provencal market and dating from the Napoleon III period. Very fine polychrome printing with picots and decoration of palms and cashmere boteh. Aubergine-colored background (superimposed blue and red) and two fan-shaped spandrels on two sides reminiscent of the arrangement of Moon shawls. The green is obtained by superimposing blue and yellow. Hand-rolled finishes on two sides. No defects apart from a very light period patina. Good condition of color and conservation. Dimensions: 94 cm x 89 cm.
