Son of the famous painter Carl August Liner, whose disciple he quickly became, Carl Walter Liner's youth was marked by numerous trips to Egypt, France, Algeria, Spain, Italy and Corsica. He divided his working life between his studios in Paris, Fontvieille (Provence) and Appenzell (Switzerland).
His meetings or friendships with Vlaminck, Braque, and especially Zadkine, Schneider and Erich Heckel influenced his work: large abstract canvases, imbued with figuratism and overflowing with movement.
Carl Walter Liner's works have mainly been exhibited in Switzerland, Germany, France and the United States.
