Subject: Crowned Virgin with Child, Jesus only wore a crown of thorns. It was in the 17th century that Count Alexander Sforza, to show his piety towards the Mother of God, sent at his own expense, golden crowns to the most famous Virgins of his time.
Since 1631, the date of this initiative, more than 400 crowns have been distributed.
A crown is a traditional symbolic form of headgear or hat worn by a monarch or a divinity, for whom the crown traditionally represents power, legitimacy, victory, triumph, honor and glory, as well as immortality, justice and resurrection.
