Silver-plated Theca reliquary containing a Relic of a Martyr of Gorcum ( ex Ossibus ) + Episcopal document (Coa) 19th century Theca reliquary containing a first class relic ( ex.Ossibus ) with its wax seal and intact threads, accompanied by its episcopal authenticity document signed on August 14, 1916 by the agent of Gustave Joseph Waffelaert (1895-1931 ) Bishop Bruges in Belgium. Description 19th century circular silver-plated Theca reliquary preciously containing the relics under glass of a Martyr of Gorcum. The interior is decorated with a gold fabric background, adorned with a red and blue pattern representing symmetrical stylized elements. A handwritten label in Latin indicates SS Mar.Gori. A small relic ( ex ossibus ) is fixed in the red part. On the back the numbered red wax seal of the bishop and its red silk threads guaranteeing its authenticity. About The Holy Martyrs of Gorcum are a group of faithful who suffered martyrdom for the Catholic faith. They were mostly religious in the Dutch city of Gorinchem, or Gorcum. They are nineteen martyrs, four secular priests, fourteen Franciscan monks and a converted layman who were all hanged in 1572 by the Sea Beggars led by the after having suffered abuse and mutilation.
